Dr. Alberto E. Campos Reales Pineda (Puebla City, México, 1984) obtained his Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma from the American School in 2001. He continued his undergraduate studies at The University of Nottingham (UK), graduating with a First Class Master of Engineering (MEng, Honours) in Chemical Engineering in 2005. At Nottingham, he conducted research in photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes for water treatment; and gained industrial experience at E.ON developing simulations for CO2 capture from power plant’s flue gases. He then became an International Mobile Field Engineer with Schlumberger Well Services working almost three years in cementing operations, and designing and evaluating the properties of different slurries for shale gas and oil onshore wells in West Texas and North-eastern Mexico, in addition to collaborating in Mexico Marine for Piklis-1, a deep-water exploratory well for Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX).

After enhancing the performance of a physicochemical municipal wastewater reclamation process by using ozone, he completed his PhD in Environmental Engineering (2014) at the Engineering Institute of UNAM. In 2015 he undertook a Diploma course entitled “Innovation and National Development Strategies” from the Science and Technology Commission of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico and the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of UNAM.

At this time, Alberto is working as a Posdoctoral Researcher at IIM-UNAM where he is studying the CO2 adsorption on natural microporous minerals. He is a big fan of uplifting and orchestral trance music, enjoys exercising and following economic trends.
