Research emphasis

Our research group is based at Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Topics of current interest include the following areas.

  • Macro and micromechanical behaviors of complex materials
  • In this area, we focus on understanding the macro and micromechanical behaviors of shape memory alloys, granular materials, composites, nanocomposites and even biological tissues.

  • Development of experimental mechanics techniques for complex materials characterization
  • Our laboratory is equipped with a comprehensive set of instruments for sample preparation and characterization of materials; nevertheless, studying complex materials requires specific methodologies and devices to measure macro and micromechanical responses of them; hence, our group is devoted to developing and enhance particular research devices for this challenge.

  • Micromechanics of natural and synthetic polymeric matrixes and nanocomposites: synthesis, physico-chemical characterization and applications
  • In this area, our group focus on the study of natural/synthetic polymeric matrixes. Among them, we found bovine pericardium, hybrid hydrogels, polydimethylsiloxane nanocomposites, and polymeric carbon nitride materials. Our group's primary goal in this area is to develop novel and useful materials for medical, photonics, or environmental remediation applications.
