Dr. Ateet Dutt
Principal Investigator
Dr. Ateet Dutt (India, 1988) is a materials scientist specializing in semiconductor nanostructures, biosensors, and renewable energy. He studied Electronics and Communications Engineering and later earned a master's degree in nanotechnology, completing a research stay at CINVESTAV-IPN (Mexico) through a VIT Semester Abroad scholarship. This experience led him to pursue a Ph.D. at CINVESTAV, where he co-developed a CVD system that led to a granted patent and several high-impact publications.
He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Materials Research Institute (IIM), UNAM, focusing on advanced thin-film deposition and characterization. Since 2018, Dr. Dutt has been a researcher at IIM-UNAM, promoted to Full-Time Researcher “A” in 2023. He is Level 2 in Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII) and holds PRIDE level C. His research group develops 0D/1D semiconductor nanomaterials for cancer and infectious disease detection, gas sensing, and clean energy. He has led multiple PAPIIT projects and collaborates internationally with institutions such as the University of Illinois and Dr. Thomas Webster, producing high-impact publications and translational technologies.
Dr. Dutt has authored more than 60 JCR articles, 12 IEEE proceedings, two patents, a book with World Scientific, and multiple works featured on journal covers. His work has earned awards, including PROFOPI-UNAM 2024, government funding for early detection of antibiotic-resistant pathogens, and recognition for his students, including the L’Oréal–UNESCO–AMC Women in Science Award and the Alfonso Caso Medal.
He has taught more than 20 courses at UNAM, supervised undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses, and contributed significantly to institutional leadership, scientific outreach, and academic service. Dr. Dutt is an active reviewer for journals such as The Lancet, AFM, Nano Letters, and ACS AMI and serves on multiple editorial boards. He has delivered over 40 invited talks, participated in more than 75 conferences, and organized events involving key partners such as INTEL and FUMEC.
Dr. Dutt’s career reflects a strong commitment to innovation, international collaboration, and societal impact through nanotechnology, biosensors, and sustainable materials.
