Biography
Dr. Gerardo Leyva Gómez
Dr. Gerardo Leyva Gómez developed his master's and a doctorate in the Graduate Program in Chemical Sciences at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He carried out a research stay at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Subsequently, he worked from 2011 to 2017 at the National Rehabilitation Institute, Ministry of Health, developing new drugs for wound healing. He is currently a member of the National System of Researchers level 2 (CONACyT), and works as Full-Time Professor B in the Department of Pharmacy of the School of Chemistry, UNAM.
Gerardo Leyva Gómez was awarded second place in the 2015 CANIFARMA award in the field of Technological Research, then first place in the 2015 UNAM Foundation Award for pharmaceutical innovation and health devices, and first place in the 2018 National Entrepreneur Award in the category of Innovative Idea. The CANIFARMA 2018 award in the area of Technological Research, the Santander Award for Business Innovation 2019, the BLIS-UNAM 2019 award, the Alzheimer's Award 2019-2020 Fundación Moisés Itzkowich-FUNAM 1st edition, the UNAM Foundation award for innovation 2020, the National University Distinction Recognition for Young Academics 2021 (UNAM), the Dr. Jorge Rosenkranz biotechnological research award 2022, and the CANIFARMA 2022 award.
Dr. Gerardo Leyva has published more than 100 scientific articles, 20 divulgation articles, 10 book chapters, and he is a member of 5 editorial board. Dr. Gerardo Leyva has participated in more than 300 media, including press, radio, and television, at a national and international level, and has received four national research grants. He precedes the first multidisciplinary research group in Mexico on ichthyosis and has a national and international patent pending. He is currently responsible for a research group dedicated to developing unconventional drugs for the Mexican population's emerging diseases.
