Biography

Dra. Luz María López Marín

Luz María López Marín earned her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical and Biological Chemistry from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She later completed both her Master’s and Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France. From 1994 to 2010, she was a member of the Immunology Department at UNAM’s Institute of Biomedical Research. Then, she was appointed to the Center of Applied Physics and Advanced Technology (CFATA) within the same university.

Dra. López Marín’s research focuses on understanding the cell surfaces of microorganisms, with a specific emphasis on mycobacteria. Her work has led to the identification of novel glycans with antigenic and immunomodulatory properties. In her studies, she employs a multidisciplinary approach that integrates nanotechnology, biophysics, and acoustic cavitation. Dr. López Marín has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. Her invited talks range from highly technical presentations to educational outreach for preschool children. Throughout her career, she has mentored dozens of undergraduate and graduate students and has taught extensively in the fields of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Immunology.
