Dra. Yareli Rojas Aguirre

Yareli Rojas
Dr. Yareli Rojas-Aguirre received her BSc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chemistry in 2005 from Chemistry School at The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). After 2 years working at the pharmaceutical industry, she started the MSc. Program (graduated in 2009) and then got her PhD degree in Chemistry in the year 2013, both from School of Chemistry at UNAM.

In the same year, she joined the Cellular Engineering and Nanotherapeutics Laboratory, Biomedical Engineering Department, at the University of Michigan, USA, as a postdoctoral research fellow (2013-2014).
She started her career as young researcher at the School of Chemistry. Afterwards, she worked at the Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology (ICAT, UNAM) to investigate additive manufacturing technologies (3D printing) for the fabrication of biomedical devices (2016-2017).

In October 2017, she joined the Institute of Materials Research, where she works as a full-time professor and leads SupraMat Lab, a research group focused on the design and synthesis of cyclodextrin-based supramolecular materials and the study of their interactions at biological interfaces to:

  • Design and develop advanced drug delivery systems
  • Integrate Chemistry, Biology, Materials and Pharmaceutical Sciences research for the discovery of new bioactive molecules and/or drug repositioning approaches to accomplish drug delivery platforms that lead up to novel and suitable therapies.

Dr. Yareli Rojas-Aguirre has supervised several more than 12 undergraduate and graduate students and is currently the main supervisor of 1 undergraduate, 5 MSc students and 1 PhD students. She is a member of the National System of Researchers level 1 and in 2017 she was awarded with the Entrepreneur Award “Turning a scientific invention into a commercial success” at the Workshop on Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers by the Institute of Physics (IOP, UK).
