Biography
Dra. Yareli Rojas Aguirre
Dr. Yareli Rojas-Aguirre received her BSc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chemistry in 2005 from Chemistry School at The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). After 2 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, she started the MSc. Program (graduated in 2009) and then got her PhD degree in Chemistry in the year 2013, both from School of Chemistry at UNAM.In the same year, she joined the Cellular Engineering and Nanotherapeutics Laboratory, Biomedical Engineering Department, at the University of Michigan, USA, as a postdoctoral research fellow (2013-2014).She started her career as young researcher at the School of Chemistry. Afterwards, she worked at the Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology (ICAT, UNAM) to investigate additive manufacturing technologies (3D printing) for the fabrication of biomedical devices (2016-2017).
In October 2017, Dr. Yareli Rojas-Aguirre joined the Institute of Materials Research (IIM), where she serves as a full-time Professor and leads the SupraMat Lab. Her research group integrates chemistry, biology, physics, and materials science to design and develop advanced drug delivery platforms aimed at providing innovative therapeutic solutions to address pressing global health challenges.
Her research focuses on the development of cyclodextrin-based drug delivery systems, liposomal nanocarriers, and electrospun nanofibrous platforms, with an emphasis on enhancing solubility, stability, bioavailability, and controlled release of therapeutically relevant compounds.
Dr. Rojas-Aguirre maintains a strong and consistent record of scientific dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and international collaborations. She is deeply committed to the formation of highly specialized human resources and the cultivation of scientific vocations, as reflected in her supervision of numerous graduate and undergraduate theses. Her interest in translating laboratory discoveries into real-world applications led to her recognition in 2017 with the Entrepreneur Award, “Turning a Scientific Invention into a Commercial Success,” presented at the Workshop on Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers organized by the Institute of Physics (IOP, UK).
