Research emphasis

Our research group is based at Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Topics of current interest include the following areas.

  • Macro and micromechanical behaviors of complex materials
  • In this area we are focused on understanding the macro and micromechanical behaviors of shape memory alloys, granular materials, composites, nanocomposites and even biological tissues.

  • Development of experimental mechanics techniques for complex materials characterization
  • Our laboratory is equipped with comprehensive set of instruments for sample preparation and characterization of materials; nevertheless, studing complex materials requires specific methodologies and devices for measuring macro and micromechanical responses of them; hence our group is devoted to develop and to enhance specific devices for this challenge.

  • Micromechanics of natural and synthetic polymeric matrixes and nanocomposites: synthesis, physico-chemical characterization and applications
  • In this area our group is focused on the study of natural/synthetic polymeric matrixes such as bovine pericardium, hybrid hydrogels, polydimethylsiloxane nanocomposites and polymeric carbon nitride materials. The main goal of our group in this area, is to develop novel materials that can be used in medical, photonics, and envairomental remediaton applications.
